Irene Jones
Senior Associate
Having served as a City Councillor for 15 years in the City of Etobicoke and the amalgamated City of Toronto, Irene Jones brings her experience to Global Public Affairs as a Senior Associate. Irene provides insightful strategic counsel to clients in their dealings with politicians and senior officials across the Greater Toronto Area, including community outreach for supportive housing programs, strategic advice on waterfront issues and with a wide range of planning and development applications. Irene has also assisted non-profit community groups with community grants and development matters.
Her work as a Councillor in Etobicoke included chairing the Board of Health and the Community Grants Program. During this time, she championed an improved Lodging Home by-law that provided minimum standards of care for retirement and rest homes. Irene also convinced the City of Etobicoke to enter into joint venture projects with the Board of Education and the Library Board to create the Alderwood Centre. She championed a land exchange between the Province of Ontario, Metropolitan Toronto, and the City of Etobicoke and to allow for the expansion of the Lakeshore campus of Humber College.
During her term of Council in the amalgamated City, Irene was active in a wide range of organizations including Vice-Chair of the Board of Health, Chair of the Etobicoke Community Council, Chair of the Watershed Committee for the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, member of the Environmental Task Force, Chair of Etobicoke/Mimico Watershed Committee, member of the Women Abuse Council and the Children and Youth Action Committee. Irene was also the Water Advocate for the City of Toronto for three years and chaired the community advisory committee for the Wet Weather Flow Management Master Plan. Through her efforts the City of Toronto adopted the most comprehensive and ambitious environmental program to improve and protect the ecosystem and the natural environment.
Irene has also served as Executive Director of Storefront Humber, a non-profit home support agency in south Etobicoke and was a volunteer activist who developed a nursery school and a childcare centre in south Etobicoke. Irene was also the Chair of the South West Action Network for Seniors. Her most recently volunteer activity is as the Vice Chair of the Etobicoke-Mimico Watershed Coalition, member of Citizens Concerned for the Future of the Etobicoke Waterfront and member of the community advisory committee for CAMH in south Etobicoke. Irene is also a member of the Etobicoke-Lakeshore N.D.P.
