Hershell Ezrin currently acts as Senior Counsel with Global Public Affairs’ Ontario practice. With more than 30 years of experience in senior executive roles, public policy, non-profit advocacy, and strategic communications, Hershell is an asset to our team.
In his early career as a public servant, Hershell served as Canada’s Consul in New York and Los Angeles. In this role, he contributed to the development and roll-out of Canadian diplomacy initiatives in the United States. Subsequently, Hershell was a member of the federal-provincial relations team within the Privy Council Office under Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and served as Executive Director of the Canadian Unity Information Office under then-Justice Minister Jean Chretien. In 1982, Hershell left the federal government to work as Chief of Staff to Ontario Liberal leader David Peterson. He became Principal Secretary with the rank and status of Deputy Minister when Mr. Peterson became Premier of Ontario.
Following his time working in government, Hershell transitioned to the private sector. Most recently, Hershell served as the Founding CEO of the Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA). The creation of this organization was an exercise in institutional change as it united multiple groups under a single umbrella. Hershell also previously served as President and CEO of Speedy Muffler King, Inc., Chair and CEO of GPC International, and Senior Vice President, Corporate and Public Affairs with Molson Companies Ltd. He has also served on the Boards of Directors of Suncor, Torstar, Speedy Muffler King, and PMI.
An active member of his community, Hershell has served as Chair of the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Chair of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vice Chair of the Public Policy Forum, and Vice Chair of the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, among many other volunteer positions. He is currently a Board Member of the Canadian Journalism Foundation.
Finally, Hershell is a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management and a Senior Fellow at Ryerson’s Ted Rogers Leadership Centre. He also teaches government relations at the Seneca@York campus to students enrolled in the college’s postgraduate certificate program, a program that he both initiated and developed. Hershell’s own academic background includes a BA (Hons.) from the University of Toronto and an MA from Carleton University, both in History.
